Summary

The bestselling parents' guide towards happy, sleeping babies from birth to two years, from the international baby whisperer Tizzie Hall

FULLY REVISED AND UPDATED

Tizzie Hall has gained an international reputation as a baby whisperer and miracle worker。 Even from an early age, Tizzie knew how to read babies' body language and cries, and from that auspicious beginning she has developed a series of sleep routines that have provided parents and babies with a good night's sleep the world over。

Save Our Sleep is the book that parents asked Tizzie to write, and with over 40,000 copies sold in the past three years it has rapidly become the only book parents need to cure their own sleep deprivation! New material includes new routines, integrated feedback on routines, dummy use, express feeding, dealing with premature babies and twins, more information on teaching your baby to self-settle and brand new case studies and tips。

I threw the copy I was given in the bin。

Other reviews have covered the fact this book recommends a version of cry-it-out from newborn (the author may argue semantics about what is a 'cry' but this book is clearly in that camp)。 I will just add that as a first-time mum I did think the daily schedules were useful as a guide to what to expect at different ages, until I actually tried them。 For instance, at 10 weeks she recommends feeds four hours apart and naps at 9am, 1pm and 4。30pm。 I found this far too long for my baby and I think lot Other reviews have covered the fact this book recommends a version of cry-it-out from newborn (the author may argue semantics about what is a 'cry' but this book is clearly in that camp)。 I will just add that as a first-time mum I did think the daily schedules were useful as a guide to what to expect at different ages, until I actually tried them。 For instance, at 10 weeks she recommends feeds four hours apart and naps at 9am, 1pm and 4。30pm。 I found this far too long for my baby and I think lots of other people will too。 I found the alternative idea of 'wake windows' far more helpful in the end, rather than set schedules。 Skip this book, I think there is more up-to-date advice out there。 。。。more

Overall this book was a success for us, it can come across confusing and not clear in the beginning especially being a first time mum with almost zero sleep。 One thing every reader needs to understand is that you need to adapt the routines and method to your baby, every baby is different, learning your baby takes time and there will be trial and error but I believe her concept works。 I believe Tizzie has a natural ability in understanding babies, and it can be hard putting all of your experience Overall this book was a success for us, it can come across confusing and not clear in the beginning especially being a first time mum with almost zero sleep。 One thing every reader needs to understand is that you need to adapt the routines and method to your baby, every baby is different, learning your baby takes time and there will be trial and error but I believe her concept works。 I believe Tizzie has a natural ability in understanding babies, and it can be hard putting all of your experiences into one small book hence why she has included case studies so possibly you may be able to relate to some and adjust the routine。 We didn't have any sleep regressions thankfully which I believe has a lot to do with self soothing:)P。S we had a very difficult baby, screamed constantly so I know this book worked and helped us 。。。more

Really helpful routines, probably a bit militant for the screaming parts。 Straight up great trouble shooting for non sleeping babies。 They're probably cold or hungry, and this has all the details for how to help with that。 Really helpful routines, probably a bit militant for the screaming parts。 Straight up great trouble shooting for non sleeping babies。 They're probably cold or hungry, and this has all the details for how to help with that。 。。。more

The research I’ve done an a child’s development indicates that this book should not be allowed to be sold and she should be shut down! Also every child deserves to be clean a baby will not poo just to get out of going to bed! Disgusted in what I have read on the fact that people use you and belive in your advice horrid

I’ve only read a few baby books。 Can’t say I got much from this one。 I do like the idea of the 7pm bedtime and eventually giving routines to our baby is something we will do。 That’s mostly what this book is about。 The author is not a health professional and it really shows。 She makes the numerous statements that are clearly just correlations that could mean anything。 Typical correlation is not causation。 For example - “puppies can understand the work ‘walk’ so to get your baby to bottle feed it I’ve only read a few baby books。 Can’t say I got much from this one。 I do like the idea of the 7pm bedtime and eventually giving routines to our baby is something we will do。 That’s mostly what this book is about。 The author is not a health professional and it really shows。 She makes the numerous statements that are clearly just correlations that could mean anything。 Typical correlation is not causation。 For example - “puppies can understand the work ‘walk’ so to get your baby to bottle feed it helps to tell your baby what you are doing”。 I got no problem in talking to my baby but her many opinions like this are simply unfounded。 The routines are also extremely confusing and misleading。 At first glance it looks like there is no night feeds so sounds awesome I will get a good sleep - then every routine there is the below note of ‘night feeds - when your baby wakes during the night feed it for however long it needs’ well that’s no different to demand feeding。 She also has some different opinions to the WHO, raising children’s website and red nose SIDS guide。 I don’t see why I should trust her opinions over these organizations。 Probably better to spend your time reading another baby book。 。。。more

Some advice is gold, some I chose not to follow but overall I am very happy I read this book。 Use it as a guide but always listen to your instincts。

I hate everything about this book; DNF。

Tevia Jeffries

Unsupported advice that goes against current science。 The author appears to have no training or qualifications other than knowing some babies。 Her advice goes against current science and guidelines designed to prevent SIDS and to provide your baby with appropriate nutrition。 Much of the book is her random advice about things other than sleep。 Quite frankly, the book appears to be a safety hazard。

This book has some handy tips。 It's very prescriptive so depending on your personality you'll love it or hate it。 With my first child we found the self settling tactics too much for us to handle so the book got put away and I didn't look at it again。 I know other mums who swear by it so have given it another skim for baby 2 and will give it another go。 This book has some handy tips。 It's very prescriptive so depending on your personality you'll love it or hate it。 With my first child we found the self settling tactics too much for us to handle so the book got put away and I didn't look at it again。 I know other mums who swear by it so have given it another skim for baby 2 and will give it another go。 。。。more

I’ve been struggling with nighttime wakings and a friend recommended this book。 I’ve apparently followed most of the advice unknowingly。 But I’m going to try the routines outlined in here and see if it takes a difference but the focus seems to be on ~getting~ them to sleep - I couldn’t find an answer to the ‘my child wakes up ten times a night, not actually wanting much, resettles easily but it’s super annoying having to get up 😂’。 I’ll revise my rating after I’ve given the routine a good go and I’ve been struggling with nighttime wakings and a friend recommended this book。 I’ve apparently followed most of the advice unknowingly。 But I’m going to try the routines outlined in here and see if it takes a difference but the focus seems to be on ~getting~ them to sleep - I couldn’t find an answer to the ‘my child wakes up ten times a night, not actually wanting much, resettles easily but it’s super annoying having to get up 😂’。 I’ll revise my rating after I’ve given the routine a good go and gotten rid of the dummy though! 。。。more

If I could give this negative 100 stars, I would。 THIS IS ABUSE。 Babies are not capable of manipulation。Saying an infant will vomit and soil itself to manipulate you into holding it is the most astonishing thing I’ve ever seen。 This is so dangerous and I cannot even believe it was published。 I’m disgusted。

This book is a DISGRACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buy this book!!This book literally saved us。 My daughter was basically a demon child for her first 9 weeks of life。 She screamed constantly, had colic, would only rest if we held her in our arms and bounced her a certain way, never smiled, and I was feeding her every hour or so。 I had reached the end of my limit and hated myself as a mum and hated her and then felt terrible for hating a newborn。 One of my friends suggested this book to me and introduced me to the idea of sleep training。 I had no Buy this book!!This book literally saved us。 My daughter was basically a demon child for her first 9 weeks of life。 She screamed constantly, had colic, would only rest if we held her in our arms and bounced her a certain way, never smiled, and I was feeding her every hour or so。 I had reached the end of my limit and hated myself as a mum and hated her and then felt terrible for hating a newborn。 One of my friends suggested this book to me and introduced me to the idea of sleep training。 I had no idea it was even a thing before that! I immediately bought this book and read the whole thing in a day。 Then I copied out the schedule for our daughter's age and stuck it on the fridge and followed it religiously。 It took 2 weeks, and a lot of tears (most of them mine), until she started sleeping through the night, but we got there! This book does not condone the "Cry it out" method; instead, it's about learning that your child's cries are different for different needs and listening for which cry is which。 I learnt very quickly which cry was an emotional cry and which one was a temper tantrum。My daughter is turning 3 in two weeks and she has slept through the night 7pm-8am pretty much every night since we applied the methods from this book。 She also still naps from 1-3pm most days。We started my son (he's almost 2) on the sleep scheduling from birth and I have never had to put him to sleep。 He also sleeps 7pm-8am and naps 1-3:30pm every day。I can't recommend this book more highly。 I also bought a physical copy which I lend it to my expecting friends so that they won't be ignorant of sleep training like I was。The only two things that aren't completely positive that I have to say about this book is that the author is a bit extreme over the risk of SIDS and uses the issue to push her own products on readers。 And the author recommends starting infants on food at 4 months old。 I ignored that for both of my children as I didn't feel that they were ready for solids and neither did their paediatrician。Other than that, this book works。 Buy it!! 。。。more

I put this book in the bin to prevent another family coming across it。 A book that completely disrespects babies and places enormous pressure and stress on parents。 By no means one of a kind in that sense。 But a readily available book to avoid at all costs。

Terrible readThis book was a complete waste of my time and money。 All opinion based, no fact whatsoever and no references。

Gifted to me this book as been an absolute lifesaver! My son thrives off the routine and it's helped us immensely。 We started at 4 weeks old and by 9 weeks he is sleeping 10。5-11 hours overnight。 Excellent online community too for continued support。 Often gets a bad wrap but I'm left questioning if they read the book in depth and detail。 Read this book more than once, in depth, highlight parts, adapt as needed and most of all ASK QUESTIONS before writing it off! I see that the reviews of this book are incredibly polarised。 I understand that。 I’m sure my first son would never have adapted to her strict routines。 However the overall advice and information she gives is sensible and it’s an approach that would work for some people。 I’d recommend it to parents who’s babies have sleeping issues and who are open to the idea of a strict routine。

Thu Nguyen

I'm at the deep end of sleep deprivation and this book explains many things I didn't know before。 Quite a few interesting tips and tricks。 But in the end when it comes to sleep training it's still about your mental health versus your crying baby。 I'm at the deep end of sleep deprivation and this book explains many things I didn't know before。 Quite a few interesting tips and tricks。 But in the end when it comes to sleep training it's still about your mental health versus your crying baby。 。。。more

I found this book quite rigid in its approach and it didn’t work for me at all。 There are some thing that seem illogical to me, like the idea that babies can self-soothe。 I’m not an expert but I wouldn’t expect a five year old to soothe themselves, why would I expect my five week old to do so? If it works for other people then that’s amazing, but it doesn’t work with my philosophy。

Amber Hill

Preachy as, and author has a very strict opinion , but it did outline what a good routine looks like which I hope is helpful。EDIT: Baby now 7 months old and can confirm that for this little one these routines were very helpful and a life savior for me in my confused new mummy state!!!! (But I think it must be acknowledged that every child is different and next bub this may not work at all。)

This book is an absolute nightmare collection of all the things NOT to do to your children (like letting them lay in their own vomit and dirty diapers so it teaches them some sort of nonsensical “lesson”, because how dare a child want to be clean, fed, and comforted?)。

Peta Bruce

This is a fantastic book for establishing routines!!! You don’t need to follow everything go a T but it is very helpful to know when your baby is ready for a nap。 Babies/children thrive on routine

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I didn't finish reading it as the information contradicted what was taught in classes and in What to Expect the First Year。 Author not in the medical profession。 Also information what not realistic。。。6。55pm put baby down in cot 7。00pm baby will be asleep Times were too specific even to follow as an adult let alone a baby。 For this to work you have to follow times exactly which isn't realistic unless you don't go out and no one ever comes over or calls。 Doctors appointments are meant to be made I didn't finish reading it as the information contradicted what was taught in classes and in What to Expect the First Year。 Author not in the medical profession。 Also information what not realistic。。。6。55pm put baby down in cot 7。00pm baby will be asleep Times were too specific even to follow as an adult let alone a baby。 For this to work you have to follow times exactly which isn't realistic unless you don't go out and no one ever comes over or calls。 Doctors appointments are meant to be made around your babies eating and sleeping times。 No idea which amazing doctor the author goes to where there's so many options available for appointments and appointment times are never running late。 。。。more
